A Farrier Who Cares
Ever had a horse with an odd club foot that you or others have given up on? Maybe a horse with a leg a little shorter than the others? Navicular? Lamanitis? I have worked with all these situations here and more. I know about PSSM, and shivers, and I go a little slower and hold the leg a little lower of that 25 year old semi retired trail horse that carried you through your last ten years of showing and deserves a nice, soft steady hand. Your horses deserve the treatment of an athlete, because they are one!
You deserve to be pampered right? You work hard. So does your equine friend. Whether it’s 13-100 mile trail rides or the 2 barrel races a month, they push their physical limits with us. Take care of what is their very foundation! Central Ohio is full of good farriers, but just like any practitioner, make sure the farrier is a fit to you and your horse, and that that do right by the horse’s needs. Don’t go by the price tag alone or you will end up paying more in the end. To read more about my experience click HERE.
If you’ve got a normal shiny and fat pasture puff that just need to get on a schedule, or a rescue case that’s been let go for years and has “elf shoes” I can help, and I’ve probably already seen some version of your furry pal. If you appreciate that it’s a craft, art, and science and the true thoroughness of a good job, give me a call, or better yet, a text ( I love to keep things in writing with my busy schedule) or even a Facebook message to My Facebook Page.

Maintenance Trim
$65 for a single horse, $55ph for 3+ horses, $50ph for 4+ (or with qualifying visit)
This is not a glorified pasture trim or fad. This is a healthy, beveled trim, to your horse and your horse’s specific conformation for a sound animal, quick and natural breakover, and smooth and comfortable a gait as possible. Chris will not apply excessive packages or do any “gait altering” shoeing that is not for medical reasons. *ask about nonprofit pricing.
Trimming and maintaining a proper hoof for a healthy horse. Maintaining and balancing a barefoot horse, aiming for sound and well balanced trim for each individual animal. The average charge for a trim, for all horses, mini to 17hh, is $55.
Trims recommended 4-8 weeks depending on your horse’s needs.
Clients will be turned away for routinely going over 10-12 weeks because there is more wear on the tools and it’s harder to fix physically, and it is detrimental to your horse. A 1/16 of a centimeter makes a big deal in some health cases. It also can make any farrier look bad, if a “recent trim” isn’t well balanced due to time it was allowed to grow out. *Discount is per client, not barn.

Draft/ Oversize Trim
$80+
Draft trims are typically $80. For this service a horse is considered to be a draft if it is oversized (not average) of any heavy breed. Anything size 4 and over, draft crosses, those who typically would need stocks (I don't use stocks), Belgians, Clydesdale, Percherons, and some mixed breeds will fall into this category. With or without stocks does not matter but due to previous bad experiences I prefer stocks to be wooden, not welded.
Unruly animals or those badly neglected may incur an additional fee at the first trim. Discount to $75 a draft if you have multiples.
Shoes depend on what you need and the size of the hoof. Max of 10 scheduled at a time.
Hot/Cold Shoeing
$130+
The typical horse needing basic steel front shoes will currently run $130. This includes all around hoof care and a trim fitting the horse to be shod and a set of shoes for fronts. Does not include therapeutic shoeing. Revaluation recommended every 6 weeks. Shoes don’t allow the hoof to wear down and can do damage if left for longer than 6-8 weeks at most.
-
Front shoes only $130
-
Full set of regular steel $155
Aluminum shoes : Aluminum shoes are an extra $12 charge due to material cost.
HOT or Cold shoeing available. Both have their own benefits. Discuss with me what might be best for your horse based on its individual needs and background. Hot shoeing may incur an extra fee due to fuel cost.
